Friday, 18 November, 2022 – Elias sent David pictures and a brief text about his first meal in Chiang Mai yesterday. If I have located him correctly, he went to a place not very far from the airport.
Elias: First meal in chiang mai. Khao soi which is the most famous dish from the region. And my first time trying frog. Didn’t realize it was a whole frog until I spit out an eye but really really good served with a Mae ploy type sauce but a little spicier.
Did you get that? Elias ate a whole frog and his comment on the experience was, “really good served with a Mae ploy type sauce but a little spicier.”
This is where he was in the city when he had this meal. If you click through to the map, you can see the neighborhood, called the Si Phum Sub-district. I screen shot the map with Google’s description of the area, just to capture things like, “Old City heavyweights.” Somehow a place that has a temple, food stalls, bars, and a boxing stadium does not strike me as the “cultural heart” of the city.
