Sunday, 14 August, 2022 – I interrupted a call between Elias and his sister today. It was great to see him and hear how he is doing. I think he is okay, good, even. Spending so much time alone, after he is finished with work for the day is okay for now. He’s reading and watching movies (thank goodness for WiFi). I think he is looking forward to traveling with his friends.
He said that I have gotten “so many” things wrong in my posts about where he is and what he is doing. I knew I was guessing and extrapolating based on very little information. But apparently, I was wildly off-base. Oh, well.
First, the vegetables from yesterday’s photograph are all his vegetables. He said the farm folks will give him whatever produce he asks for, to cook with, himself. He showed us his refrigerator’s contents, and he has all sorts of food in there, including beer and wine from the region.
And he said I should go ahead and use his full name.
And, he has not worked in the restaurant yet. That is tomorrow, starting early in the morning, and may not be in the kitchen the whole day. So, I got that wrong, too. 🙂
He may be staying through the 22nd, not the 18th, but still has to finalize plans with his friends.
I looked up places that I think he went on day 15 in Arles. If I am wrong, he can correct me when I talk to him again. I also looked up the restaurant on social media, out of curiosity. The links for all of it are below.

Arles Links

1. The Luma Tower is a Frank Gehry design and from what I can tell, it is a big deal in the architectural world.
- The Luma Tower webpage.
- An article by The Guardian about the architectural significance of the Tower.
2. The Amphitheatre dominates the city of Arles, apparently; you can’t miss it.
- Here’s a link to a short article about the history of the Arles Amphitheatre.
3. Elias and his friend may have traversed the entire Van Gogh Walking Trail. It sounds like it is not very long but I think this is where Elias took the picture. If I am understanding correctly, Van Gogh painted two paintings of the hospital in Arles where he stayed. One was called “Le Jardin de la Maison de Sante.” The garden has been preserved and is a stop on the walking trail.

I still have not figured out where this is:
