Travels with E (Day 74)

Friday, 7 October, 2022 – I was so tired last night, I did not finish my post. But then Elias called today and I have more interesting stuff to write about, after talking to him, than I had planned to write about, anyway.

Elias is off to Naples tomorrow. He told us that he’s really enjoyed the food in Rome. I think there’s been more places to eat, off the beaten path, than he felt were available in Venice or Florence. In any case, last night he had what he said was nearly the best meal he has had on the trip. And, it was cheap, which made it more fun. He ordered a litre of red wine, not fully realizing what a full litre jug of wine looks like. He had considered ordering only a half-litre, but it was €\ 4.00 and the full litre was €\ 6.00. Being the bargain shopper he is, naturally he ordered the full litre!

By the time the couple at the next table sat down and started talking to him, he was feeling no pain. It was fun just listening to him tell us about his evening; he is still not feeling 100% but he is clearly feeling better overall. He and the couple – they were from Santa Cruz, California – chatted so long, the restaurant wait staff had to nudge Elias to leave. I love picturing that.

So I looked up the restaurant. It is called Trattoria Pizzeria Roma Centro Luzzi. It was started in 1945 and is near the Coliseum. Here’s a picture of the restaurant interior, just to help you imagine Elias sitting there with his quattro piatti and gigantic jug of wine. Their menu is in Italian, English, and German, so you can what he had to choose from.

Last Pictures From Florence

I am posting Elias’s Florence pictures now, and will put the Rome pictures on today’s post. I got behind, trying to locate all the pictures. Sorry, I don’t know where all of these shots were taken.
