Travels with E (Day 103)

Saturday, 5 November, 2022 – As I write, Elias is beginning his Sunday, 6 November. I don’t know what he did today (Saturday) except to say to David that Thailand is even better than he expected. And that he slept 14 hours on Friday night.

Elias gave David some interesting details in their text exchange on Friday.

Elias: I did all “street food” today even though some were sit down places on a street and didn’t pay more than 100 baht for a single dish. It was a big eating day since I was starving getting off the plane and started at 8 am and I still think I only spent 15 bucks on the day eating like 5 times. But I haven’t slept in 30 hours or so.

David asked how the flight was.

Elias: Tiniest seat I’ve every been in. The headrest was at my shoulders. As in the top of it so I either had to contort myself to rest my head or sit up straight and hold my head up. My body’s hurting from it now.

If it didn’t sound so miserable, it would be sort of funny. Elias is tall, but he’s not a giant, for crying out loud.

This is the picture he sent of his food. I think it is a bahn xeo, a sort of pancake with stuff inside. It’s a Vietnamese dish, though I am sure there’s a Thai version. And, Thailand has communities of people from all over South East Asia, so it may be Elias visited a Thai-Vietnamese food stall. Who knows? Who cares? It looks delicious, wherever it came from.

Elias and David have talked about a guy on YouTube who lives in Thailand and posts about food all the time named Mark Wiems. Elias has remarked that he knows his stuff and that he is super annoying. So I looked up his YouTube channel, called simply, Mark Wiems. Yes, annoying but also, interesting.
