Monday, 7 November, 2022 – Elias called today to check in before he leaves for the beach, an island called Koh Chang, very early on Wednesday morning. I hope he will have sufficient WiFi to be able to text but who knows. In any case, it was nice to hear his voice.
He uploaded lots more pictures. I am posting just a few here, because I am looking up the location information and trying to figure out where he’s been. Also, I drove to St. Louis today with a librarian colleague, which was honestly fun; maybe because we stopped for lunch and hit 5:00 traffic, it felt waaay longer than a four-hour drive.
A few of these photos are of food and a couple are from the park and grounds of the Grand Palace, which is still a functioning royal place, though the royal family lives in another palace. The Grand Palace is where lots of royal-ish ceremonies are held. I just read that the King of Siam, as it was known a long time ago, negotiated Thailand’s neutrality during World War II, so that Thailand did not suffer the same destruction and loss of life that some of the other Southeast Asian countries did.
The name of the park is Saranrom Park (a link to very short description of the park). Here’s a link to the Grand Palace’s brief description and a link to the official website.
