Tuesday, 8 November, 2022 – My sister-in-law Amy went to Belgium after she graduated from high school in Kansas. She lived with a family in Brussels for almost a year. She became fluent in the language and has stayed in touch with the people she calls her “Belgian family.” I am always impressed when I hear her on the phone with one of them, speaking Dutch.
She texted her Belgian brother, Ward Nuyttens, who lives in Bangkok, to tell him that her nephew was traveling to Thailand. Ward texted back to say, Great! Give him my number and we’ll get together.
They got together last night and had a really fun night. It sounds like Ward also appreciates good food, so I expect they had lots to talk about. Ward and his girlfriend have lived in Bangkok for several years, from what I understand. I imagine it was fun for all three of them to share the love of traveling and learning and the sense of adventure you would need to travel so far. Not that everyone should want to go 9,000 miles away, but I think when you meet a “fellow traveler,” it is nice.
More pictures from Bangkok, too.
