Thursday, 11 August, 2022 – E sent pictures of the produce he picked today. ( I assume he picked it but I guess I don’t know for sure.) I was thinking about the fact that we never had a family garden and how all four of us loathe yard work. But this is different. E is working with the raw materials of the food he is going to eat later today, or watch being prepared later this week. I don’t know if he will ever have his own garden but I get the impression he loves learning about the plants and flowers he is laboring over on this hot, mosquito-ridden, farm. (Can you tell the mosquito thing bothers me? Yuck. Yuck. Yuck.)
About the pictures, I am sorry to say that I am not sure what the building is – the outside of the guesthouse where he’s staying? Outside the restaurant? And I have no idea of what the produce is, except the flowers – which I do know are edible – and what looks like carrots to my untrained eye. Maybe E will look through these posts one day and edit them to provide more accurate details. In the meantime, I am taking immense joy in seeing his pictures, even if I don’t know what the hell I am looking at.

E wrote notes about the staff meal, and sent a screen capture to D. This is not the whole text exchange between D and E today but it captures their shared appreciation of food. And I love E’s comment about his French improving.
