Saturday, 17 September, 2022 – Elias sent a video today and ridiculously, I caught a glimpse of him in the mirror and felt better for seeing him. (I wasn’t feeling terrible or worried – I was just strangely thrilled to catch a glimpse of him. Why does it feel like he’s been gone longer than 54 days?)
They arrived in Munich today. I am not sure what the allure of Oktoberfest is, but they seem to know what it means. I will look it up and write more in the next few days, since I think they intend to stay for a little while. I also don’t know anything about Munich, apart from my associating it with the Olympics and a terrible history of the Israeli athletes who were killed there.
So, Elias’s video. If you were hoping it was a video of Munich, sorry to disappoint you. It is a video of the Airbnb where they are staying.
Here is the brief exchange that accompanied the video:
Elias: Here’s the place for Oktoberfest – most definitely a steal at 95 a night.
Me: Wow. That’s so nice. You’re in Munich?
Elias: Yes we got in this afternoon
Me: I’m glad you have a good space to enjoy.
David: Looks awesome. Have fun.
With every new place Elias goes, I am confronted by things I took for granted as true, or had not given enough careful thought to. The size of Germany is yet another thing: it’s big! It took our threesome 3-4 hours to get from Amsterdam to Cologne yesterday. And then they traveled another 5-6 hours today to get to Munich. How did I think it would be a short trip?

I hope they find what they are looking for and enjoy the time they spend together. I think they planned, tentatively, to embark on different paths after Munich, though my impression is they have not decided, yet.
