Travels with E (Day 68)

Saturday, 1 October, 2022 – I looked up things to do for free in Florence and discovered that the State Museums have free admittance on the first Sunday of the month. It sounds like Elias had already discovered that and was planning to go. Oh well, he did not really need my list, but that is okay. Maybe it is enough that he knows I will help, if I can. He texted this message today:

Elias: I saw [what you emailed] today and was planning on going. I think some museums are free tomorrow so I’m planning on going. I don’t know if the place where the David is but since it’s the first Sunday there’s a chance. I met some people tonight and ended up going out with them all night. I think I’m doing the best I have since munich.

Yay! A fun night with new people. He needed some fun.

I don’t know if he will get to see the David at the Galleria della Accademia. I seem to recall waiting a long time and while it is beautiful, I also liked other sculptures just as much. (I feel slightly heretical admitting that.)

I suggested he could go see the Synagogue of Florence, since it is open on Mondays, which no other museum is. I don’t know if he will be able to go, since Tuesday is Yom Kippur.

I think he said he was switching hostels too, so I think he is here, at the Yellowsquare Hostel, tonight and the rest of the time he is in Florence. It certainly advertises its social activities. But it seems like every place he’s stayed has also promoted social activities, and according to Elias, they do not always live up to the hype. Maybe this one is different. In any case, one good evening is enough for now.
