Travels with E (Day 67)

Friday, 30 September, 2022 – Shabbat Shalom and L’Shana Tova. (It’s the Jewish New Year.) Elias is in Florence. I think it was a long-ish day of traveling from Venice but it appears he is there. He said yesterday the train trip would be a little stressful because he had 10 minutes to transfer trains. Twice.

I know that is possible – I have done it – but I also remember the feeling of, “Okay, don’t panic. Other people must do this all the time. If I miss it, I will figure it out. Be ready to get off and figure out where to go. Now. Go now.” When you live there, it doesn’t feel so pressing. I think. I assume. When you are doing it for the first time, reading signs in another language, watching people get on and off trains, it is a little nerve-wracking.

In any case, it seems like he is there.

I think he is at this hostel, the Plus Hostel. A name I think some smart marketing team settled on because if you put the two words together, you get plushotel. Get it? Plush? Hotel. I just hope it is half of what they advertise.

In an effort to be helpful, I looked for things for Elias to see and eat in Florence and Rome which are free, or low cost. I have no idea if any of it will be of any use to Elias. If even one suggestion leads him to something he likes, it will be worth the effort. When he gets home, we can go back through the list and he can tell me if visited any of the places I sent him.
