Travels with E (Day 80)

Thursday, 13 October, 2022 – Elias leaves Salerno for several days of travel where he will be in a city for just a day or two. He stays in Monaco for more than two days, I think, but otherwise, he is doing a whirlwind tour of northern and coastal Italy for a while. And France, too, since he’s going to Marseille and Lyon. In any case, I kept trying to picture him lying in the sun, drinking wine, attempting to read and falling asleep. I have no idea if that is possible. The only pictures I have found of the beach in Salerno do not look like a beach where you can sit on the sand and snooze.

This from Google:

I don’t know. Doesn’t look very warm and relaxing to me.

It is very late again, so I don’t have anything very interesting to say. Annika called and asked me to help her study for a midterm. I am not complaining – I love to help. And I have learned that when Annika or Elias say the teacher is scattered or doesn’t make sense, they are correct. Not every class is going to be great. And not every subject is going to thrill. We know this. Fine. Even at Harvard, there’s going to be a dud class or teacher. Maybe more than one.

What I don’t understand is how do they not realize they are confusing? How do they not see it? Students lined up for office hours, emailing questions. Surely that’s a sign. I read through the slides Annika’s professor provides, to help study for the test, and they do not make any sense. Argh!

Anyway, Elias will be leaving Salerno on Friday, hopefully well-rested and well-fed…without a cold. Fingers crossed.
